UBM Platform Deployments
These Unified Bandwidth Management appliances are designed with flexability in mind, they can replace an existing web filtering solution, work in parallel with an existing firewal, or by using its transparent plug-in mode sitting behind an existing firewall.
Existing Firewall Replacement
When replacing an existing network firewall the UBM appliance can operate in standard route mode or network address translation mode. In this deployment the appliance is connected to each available ISP connection where it can accelerate, failover, and combine the speeds of both connections. This is one of the simplest deployment types.
BGP Acceleration
In this deployment the appliance operates in transparent bridge mode, thus allowing the firewall to remain as the network gateway, however the UBM appliance can still add BGP acceleration and Best Path Routing to the existing BGP solution.
WAN Offloading
A parallel firewall deployment enables an existing firewall to continue operating as the primary WAN access gateway, however some traffic, like web-based or other cloud applications can be redirected through the UBM appliance for faster connectivity to the Internet via multiple inexpensive WAN connections. This deployment can also be used when an MPLS circuit exists for branch office connectivity and only Internet access is forwarded to the UBM platform.
