Indestructible MultiWAN Optimization
MultiWAN Optimization enables businesses with multiple locations to improve wide-area network connectivity between offices through the use of multiple links. There are a number of solutions on the market today which incorporate various forms of WAN virtualization in order to improve network performance between sites.
WAN Optimization is a process by which business can increase data-transfer efficiencies across wide-area networks with only a single link. There are a number of solutions on the market today which incorporate various forms of WAN optimization, most of which take advantage of TCP data-transfer efficiencies or application caching to improve performance.
MultiWAN Optimization vs WAN Optimization: What's the difference?
The goal of both MultiWAN Optimization and WAN Optimization is to increase performance across a wide-area network. WAN Virtualization does this primarily through the use of multiple WAN links, i.e. by combining the throughput of multiple links in order to achieve higher overall throughput rates. WAN Optimization achieves its performance increase through caching, and by changing packet header information in order to trick the application to send more information than it typically would.
Both of these methods have their advantages and disadvantages. The key advantage of WAN Virtualization is its inherent capability to provide netwok redundancy along with its increase speeds. The disadvantage is that one must purchase additional WAN links for each remote site. While this cost can be offset by utilizing less expensive broadband links, the additional cost must be taken into consideration.
While there would seem to be a cost advantage to WAN Optimization, one must consider the potential costs associated with not having a built-in redundancy solution. Even if one were to use an external method for achieving redundancy, such methods would most likely require an additional broadband link, thus having the combined solution would again seem advantageous.
What is MultiWAN Optimization?
MultiWAN Optimization (Multiple Wide-Area Network Optimization) combines the advantages of both WAN Virtualization and WAN Optimization by utilizing a unique technology called Multi-Session Acceleration, a technology patented by XRoads Networks.
Multi-WAN Optimization is actually a combination of several patented and patent pending functions within our UBM platforms. These functions enable both link and tunneling bonding as well as link bonding through multiple tunnels. Only the UBM platforms incorporate both link and tunnel bonding functionality, and only XRoads Networks' UBM platforms can deliver accelerated bandwidth without the use of TCP modification or the need for multiple WAN links or multiple devices, however having multiple WAN links does significantly increase performance and reliability.
